The recipes are all about sharing Jamie’s passion for music education and the aim here is to give you some creative ideas to use with his original songs. This is for teachers, caregivers, parents or anyone wanting to take the songs to the next level, exploring the concepts of music through singing, moving, playing instruments and improvising to Jamie’s songs. Sizzle!1. The word ’sizzle’ is an onomatopoeia – the formation of a word by imitating the sound associated with the thing referred to. What are some other onomatopoeic words? Here’s a few – squelch, buzz, ding dong… 2. Say the chant along with the recording of the song. Vary the dynamics (volume) for each phrase, such as saying the “sizzles” soft (piano), the “mash” moderately loud (mezzo forte), the “peas” loud (forte) and the chorus with a crescendo or gradually getting louder. 3. Follow the demonstration of dance moves above in the video for each of the phrases to show the structure of the song, or better still create your own! 4. Select three different sounding percussion instruments to accompany each phrase of the song. Listen to each sound and discuss which instrument would best suit the “sizzle little sausage” phrase, which instrument would best suit the “mash potato” phrase and which instrument would best suit the “spilt the peas” phrase. In the video I have used a shaker for the sizzle, a drum for the mash potato and bells for the peas. Perform the rhythm of each phrase along with the song according to the chosen instrument. In the chorus have everyone play together on the “cook up, cook up!” Enjoy! |
